Investment casting in perfection – using the lost-wax process

The lost-wax process, also known as investment casting, uses modern industrial waxes to create ceramic molds for casting. Since both the models (positive model) and the molds (negative model) are lost during the casting process, this method is also referred to as casting with expendable molds.

The mold (negative model) is typically made of ceramic and is lost because it must be destroyed after each casting to release the part. The model (positive model), on the other hand, is usually made of wax and represents the desired cast part. This wax model is lost during the melting-out phase.

Stainless Steel Investment Casting offers several advantages: high precision and detailed accuracy, the ability to produce complex geometries and shapes, minimal material waste, and low tooling costs. Lost-wax casting enables cost-effective production and is ideal for manufacturing small batches or even single pieces, as the production time for complex parts is relatively short and requires no elaborate mold preparation.
